Chapter 1, Act 1: First Resonance - Wuthering Waves Guide - IGN (2024)

The Wuthering Waves First Resonance quest is the first main quest to take place in Jinzhou City. As the third main quest in the game, First Resonance follows the Utterance of Marvels II quest.

This Wuthering Waves First Resonance walkthrough will help you complete this part of the story.

First Resonance Walkthrough

First Resonance starts in the western entranceway to Jinzhou City. From there, walk up the staircase towards the east, leading further into the city. Once you reach the top, you’ll see the Nexus Tower on your left. Interact with it to unlock the Jinzhou City map.

If you open the map, you can see the full layout of Jinzhou. To proceed with the quest, walk to the top of the large staircase in the southeast.

There’s an elevator at the end of the path; use it to go up, then speak with Yangyang who’s waiting in front of the City Hall. When the conversation ends, head inside the hall.

Walk straight ahead, then follow the receptionist. When the receptionist asks you to, sit down in the chair and wait for Sanhua. When the conversation with Sanhua has ended, leave the City Hall and talk to Yangyang again.

Walk to the nearby edge to use grapple for the first time. If you want, you can speak with the nearby kids first - this is optional.

See the tiny blue stars lined up in the sky? To use grapple, aim the camera at a star and press the grapple button (‘T’ on the PC). Keep aiming at the next Grapple Point and keep using the Grapple button to fly to the next quest objective.

Once you've safely landed, enter the Academy building and speak with Mortefi.

Next, speak with Baizhi, who’s waiting just a few paces away. Once this conversation ends, immediately initiate a conversation with Baizhi again to continue the First Resonance quest. When she asks if you’re ready for the examination, say “let’s begin”.

Complete the Simulation Training by defeating every enemy in the arena. You must clear three waves of enemies in total, all consisting of three to four Tacet Discords. These Tacet Discords are quite strong but there’s no boss fight involved. Fight them as you normally would and don’t forget to trigger your Resonance Liberation, Echo, and Intro/Outro attacks.

Once the fight has ended, approach the blue portal. Since you won’t be able to leave, approach the blue portal again. The third time's the charm, as the blue portal is suddenly swapped for a large Tacet Discord enemy - approach this enemy to finally leave the Simulation Training (there’s no boss fight involved).

A brief Convene tutorial will follow. Open the Convene menu as instructed and use the Convene button at the bottom of the screen. By using the Convene gacha system, you may exchange Lustrous Tide or Radiant Tide for a change to obtain a new character or weapon. Since this is your first time using Convene, you’re guaranteed to pull Baizhi.

Completing the Convene tutorial will return you to the Academy, where you must ask Mortefi about the Tokens. He’s waiting nearby. The next quest objective instructs you to either investigate your surroundings or speak with Mortefi again - as there’s not much to do here, you may initiate the next conversation right away.

Enter Xiangli Yao’s Workshop, which is just around the corner. Approach the quest marker inside the workshop, then turn around to find the parts needed by Mortefi (on the desk).

Return the parts to him and finish the conversation.

Next, interact with the computer next to where you're standing, then head to the Archives Room.

Turn to the wall on the left and press 'read' to investigate the files. There are two glimmering interaction points here, so make sure you interact with both.

Discuss your findings with Yangyang in the main room, and leave the Academy. After a brief conversation outside, the Wuthering Waves First Resonance quest is finished and the next quest will start: Echoing Marche.
