‘The Garfield Movie’: Who Are The Voice Stars In Animated Movie Hit? (2024)

The Garfield Movie is the new box office champion and several big stars are featured alongside Chris Pratt in the voice cast.

Garfield came in a close second to Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga when the film opened in theaters on Memorial Day weekend. However, the animated movie about the lasagna-loving cat maintained its legs and finished No. 1 at the box office in its second weekend.

Guardians of the Galaxy and Parks and Recreation star Chris Pratt voices Garfield in The Garfield Movie, which begins with the orange tabby’s tale (or is it tail?) as a kitten and how he he shares a life with his human “dad” Jon Arbuckle and their dog Odie (voice of Harvey Guillén).

Despite his comfortable life, Garfield has been troubled over why his father, Mac, abandoned him in an alley when he was a kitten.

Here’s a look at the stars whose voices are among the ensemble of characters in The Garfield Movie.

Garfield: Voice of Chris Pratt

While Chris Pratt has had a very successful career in the live-action film and TV with roles in the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy and Avengers and Jurassic World franchises, he’s emerging as one of the go-to voice actors for animated features.

In addition to voicing Garfield in The Garfield Movie, Pratt previously voiced the lead roles in The LEGO Movie and its sequel, as well as The Super Mario Bros. Movie and Onward.

Vic: Voice Of Samuel L. Jackson

In The Garfield Movie, Jackson voices Vic, Garfield’s estranged father who needs his son to pay off a debut to another alley cat.

While Jackson’s thunderous voice has accompanied his commanding screen presence in such Quentin Tarantino films as Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained—as well as other blockbuster hits including the Avengers saga and Star Wars prequel trilogy—he has provided his vocal work to his fair share of animated projects, too.

Jackson’s voice credits also include key roles in The Incredibles and its sequel—and he famously voiced the audio version of the profanity-laced children’s book Go the F—k to Sleep.

Jon Arbuckle: Voice Of Nicholas Hoult

Nicholas Hoult voices Jon Arbuckle in The Garfield Movie, who finds the kitten he names Garfield peering at him—and his pizza—through the window of an Italian restaurant.

Hoult has appeared in several hit films, including the X-Men movie prequel series, as well as Warm Bodies and Mad Max: Fury Road. Hoult’s other film credits include the films Renfield, Tolkien, The Menu and About a Boy, as well as the TV series The Great.

While The Garfield Movie marks Hoult’s first major voice role in an animated movie, the actor has previously voiced roles for the stop-motion animated series Robot Chicken.

Jinx: Voice Of Hannah Waddingham

Hannah Waddingham voices the villainous cat Jinx in The Garfield Movie, a sly feline who wants payback after Vic and members of the criminal crew left her behind at a botched milk heist at Lactose Farms.

Waddingham’s recent credits include a key role on the streaming TV hit Ted Lasso, a recurring role in the series Sex Education and a supporting role in Hocus Pocus 2. Waddingham also starred in a supporting role in The Fall Guy, which generated controversy when her producer character Gail Meyer utters a joke about Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.

While The Garfield Movie marks Waddingham’s first voice role in a film, she previously voiced a lead role in the animated TV series Krapopolis. According to IMDb, Waddingham is slated to voice a character in the upcoming animated feature The Smurfs Movie.

Otto: Voice Of Ving Rhames

Ving Rhames voices Otto in The Garfield Movie, a lovelorn ox who needs Garfield and Vic’s help in rescuing his cow girlfriend Ethel (voice of Alicia Grace Turrell) from Lactose Farms. Ethel is being held captive at Lactose Farms because she’s the face of the business.

Rhames’ booming voice has helped define his characters in several films including Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction and in his recurring key role in Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible saga.

Rhames might be the most prolific voice actor in The Garfield Movie cast, as he’s assembled a long list of animated movie and TV show credits. Among them are the stop-motion animated movie Wendell & Wild, as well as the computer-animated hits Lilo & Stitch, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, Stitch! The Movie and Leroy & Stitch.

Marge: Voice of Cecily Strong

Cecily Strong voices Marge in The Garfield Movie, an antagonist security guard at Lactose Farms who thwarts Garfield and Mac’s plan to break in at every turn.

Strong, of course, was a longtime member of the Saturday Night Live cast, and her film roles include The Boss and the 2016 Ghostbusters reboot. Strong’s television roles include the streaming series Schmigadoon! and guest turns on such shows as Scream Queens and Superstore.

Strong has previously voiced a role in the animated series The Awesomes and has voiced characters in The Simpsons and Nature Cat. Strong also voiced a role in the Adam Sandler animated movie Leo.

Roland: Voice Of Brett Goldstein

Brett Goldstein voices Roland in The Garfield Movie, a massive Shar Pei dog who is one of Jinx’s two henchmen.

Goldstein, like Hannah Waddingham, starred in the hit streaming series Ted Lasso. His other credits include the Ricky Gervais series Derek, and he was introduced as Hercules in an end credits scene for the Marvel superhero movie Thor: Love and Thunder.

Goldstein’s voice credits include the Muppet series Fraggle Rock: Back to the Rock and a guest turn in the animated series Harley Quinn.

Nolan: Voice Of Bowen Yang

Bowen Yang voices Nolan in The Garfield Movie, a whippet dog who is Jinx’s other henchman.

Yang is one of the current cast members of Saturday Night Live and has appeared in such series as Awkwafina is Nora from Queens and the movies as Bros, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs. the Reverend and Good Burger 2.

Yang has voiced characters in several animated projects, including characters in the TV series Monsters at Work, Duncanville, The Simpsons and Archer.

Olivia: Voice Of Janelle James

Janelle James voices the cat Olivia in The Garfield Movie, a former crew member of Vic’s whom Garfield and Odie meet in an dog and cat pound.

A veteran standup comedian, James stars in the hit series Abbott Elementary and her guest turns include an appearance on the Amy Schumer series Life & Beth.

James’ voice roles include appearances in Tuca & Bertie, Star Trek: Lower Decks, Kite Man: Hell Yeah! and Monsters at Work.

Maurice: Voice Of Snoop Dogg

Snoop Dogg voices the eyepatch-wearing cat Maurice in The Garfield Movie. Like Olivia, Maurice is a former member of Vic’s crew who Garfield and Odie meet in the animal pound.

Snoop Dogg’s voice has been heard around the world for decades, of course, as a legendary rap music star. As an actor, Snoop Dogg has appeared in several feature films, including Starsky & Hutch, Training Day, Dolemite is My Name, Day Shift and The Underdoggs.

He has also appeared as a voice actor in many animated projects, including the series Utopia Falls, The Simpsons, Mike Tyson Mysteries and Futurama, as well as the animated movies Trouble, The Addams Family and its sequel.
