On May 25, 2021 Dennis St Paul passed away at the age of 65 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Linda of 39 years. His children; Kristy, Dennis Jr. (Chelsea), & Troy (Winnie). His grandchildren; Dennis, Roman, Dancing Star, Walter, Samuel, Dougie, Troy, Connor, Zachary, Sydney, Konyn & Damien. His mother Martha St Paul. His sisters; Barbara (Duane), Vyola (Claude), Maxine (Richard), Annie, Janice (Jason), Isabel (Davey), Emma & Martha (Wayne). His brother; Charles (Anita) St Paul. His sister in laws; Freda (Ron), Janie & Dolores. His brother in laws; Marvin (Esther), Lawrence, Ken, Bev (Edna), Lambert, Patrick (Charlotte) & Greg (Ruby). Numerous nieces and nephews too many to name. Godchildren; William Racette, Waylon Racette, Ivy Houle, Haylen St Paul, Blaine Catcheway and David Beaulieu.
Dennis was predeceased by his father Norbert St Paul, his brothers Ronald & Norbert St Paul Jr, his nephews; Adam St Paul & Shane Houle and his niece Penny Houle, his great niece Rianne Houle, his In-laws Norbert and Florence Catcheway, his brother-in-law Nelson Catcheway and his sister-in-law Corinne Kakewash.
Dennis was born at home in Ebb & Flow First Nation to Martha and Norbert. Dennis grew up helping with the family farm and often talked about his experiences. He talked about maple tree tapping with his grandmother Taulia, hunting, fishing and trapping with his brothers. Family meant everything to Dennis. He called his mother everyday on the phone and would go and visit her on weekends. He loved helping his mother and sisters and brother with their homes and yard work. Dennis made sure to visit his friends and family in Ebb & Flow.
Dennis left home at the age of 16 to work for CN Rail with the guidance of his cousin Mosquito (Joe Flett). Dennis worked with CN Rail across Canada for over 20 years with friends from Ebb & Flow. During this time he met the love of his life Linda and started a family. Dennis later on moved to Skownan where he raised his children. Dennis worked many jobs in Skownan and around Manitoba to support his family. He was a hard worker and was dedicated to every job he had.
Dennis had many skills, talents and hobbies that kept him busy every day. He made everything and anything for his children and later on his grandchildren. He built many toys, mini houses, sleighs, swings, sheds, homes, decks etc, for his family, in-laws and friends. He used to fix cars and change oil for many people and he even taught his nephew Darcy how to build an alternator and starter over the phone. His nephew Jeff called him to assist him with renovating his home. Before you knew it, Uncle Dennis arrived in Winnipeg with his tools ready to help renovate. Also, Tia his niece took great pride in calling her uncle from Pennsylvania. Uncle Dennis looked forward to these calls. So many nephews and nieces as well as family members have many stories to share about Dennis. Over the years Dennis took pride in maintaining his home and yard and the homes of his children.
Dennis achieved his Grade 12, Life Skills Training, Educational Assistant Certificate and Health Care Aide training. He enjoyed digging Seneca root, picking berries and gardening. Dennis enjoyed playing Bingo with his mother, children and grandchildren. He would also drive for elders and made many friends. Dennis worked as a homemaker for the late Maurice and Flora Catcheway. He also worked for local farmers and worked at the Skownan wood bison ranch. After completing grade 12, Dennis worked at the Skownan school for 17 years. He was a great asset to Skownan School and will be truly missed by the students and staff. He told many stories of his experiences and the staff have many funny stories as well.
Dennis was very humorous and would often tell jokes with family and friends. He was a talented artist and would entertain children with cartoons. Dennis loved his rock music and would watch live concerts. Dennis also attended concerts and would take family with him especially to John Fogerty.
There are so many stories about our dad that has brought us comfort at this time. We will cherish the memories and the love and support our dad showed us. We will surely miss our husband, dad, Papa, son, brother, uncle, friend and colleague.
We would like to thank Brandon ICU staff for their kindness and care for our dad. Skownan Chief & Council, Ebb & Flow Chief & Council, Skownan School staff, Skownan School Committee, Skownan Health Center, Waterhen Store, Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services, everyone who organized fundraisers, everyone who dropped off food, everyone who donated for our stay in Brandon, everyone who took care of our yard work, garden and our homes, so many of you to thank. Our apologies if we missed anyone. Just know you are all greatly appreciated.
A viewing was held on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM in the Skownan Roman Catholic Church, Skownan, MB. Charlotte Nepinak led a ceremony in honor of Dennis.
A viewing was held on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 from 1:00 - 5:00 PM in the Sneath-Strilchuk- Ste. Rose Chapel in Ste. Rose du Lac. Fr. Patrick Neufeld officiated with the service concluding at the chapel with cremation to follow. A private interment will take place.
